At first glance, Bull City Burger & Brewery seems like your typical family friendly destination for locals seeking craft beers and mouthwatering burgers, but in reality it's one of the most sustainable casual dining restaurants in America.
Bull City Burger is a certified B Corporation - the first in North Carolina and the first B-Corp brewpub in the world. B-Corps earn their certification by maintaining rigorous standards of social and environmental responsibility and sustainable business practices. Here are some (not all!) of the many practices of Bull City Burger & Brewery just to give you an idea of how they earn that title:
Everything on the menu, from the buns and sauces to the beer and burgers is made in-house...except for one thing - ketchup. Americans love their Heinz ketchup.
All of the beef is pasture raised with no added hormones or antibiotics.
Vegetables, chicken, eggs and all other sourced ingredients are purchased from local, organic North Carolina farms. If it's not in season, it's not on the menu.
Grain leftover from brewing is fed to the locally farmed pigs and chickens.
The restaurant itself is almost completely waste free. The staff is meticulous about sorting waste so that almost everything gets recycled or composted.
Even the restaurant itself is recycled - tables are from barn wood, the bar is made from recycled paper and bamboo.
