Sugar House Creamery is what farm dreams are made of - an old sugarhouse turned farmhouse, a herd of soft mocha Brown Swiss cows in the pasture, a dairy barn for milking and cheesemaking, a self-serve farm store, cute dogs, a one-eyed cat and two Airbnb guest cottages... all on 23 acres in the Adirondacks.
The Brown Swiss are like big lumbering dogs; Friendly and curious, if approached in pasture the only thing you risk is getting licked 😋. Sugar House Creamery is owned and managed by Margot Brooks and Alex Eaton with mini-farmer, Harriet, strapped to their backs. On the farm is also Kelsie who helps with the milking and Casey, the cheesemaker. Margot gave us a tour of the milking facilities and we followed Alex as he brought the cows in from the field for milking. As the 12 cows crossed the road it took everything inside me not to make a (bad) joke.
In the evening we stayed in the adorable guest cottage and joined everyone for beers and dinner over an open fire. We had such an awesome visit and wish we could have stayed longer for the great company and delicious cheese. Stay tuned for SHC's Bet The Farm episode in September!
